We love Ikea hacks. With so many great options at IKEA, you're bound to find a piece that suits your needs, take it one step further and customise it to make it looks like a high end piece!
Add some colour using Milk Paint by Fusion and follow these simple steps below for an incredible inexpensive transformation.
Heres what you'll need for this project:
- Toasted Coconut Milk Paint by Fusion
- 120 and 220 grit sandpaper
- Fusion Hemp Oil
- Round Brush
- Chip Brush
- Fusion Clear Wax
- Plaster and Limestone Fusion Mineral Paint
- Extra wood for base, Walnut Plank for top and handles (Optional)
- IKEA IVAR Cabinet
For this Ikea hack we purchased one unfinished Ivar cabinet to make a small armoire. We did some carpentry work by adding a base to add some height and lift it off the ground, added a solid walnut top and new large handles that were cut and made from the same solid walnut plank.

After all carpentry work was completed, we mixed equal parts water and equal parts Toasted Coconut” Fusion Milk Paint

Two coats of paint were needed for complete coverage. Since the wood was unfinished, we did not need to add Fusion Ultra Grip to our mixed paint. We did, however, sand a little all over because the wood on the Ivar cabinet is a bit rough. To learn how to get a smooth finish, check out our video here!

The walnut wood on top was a little dry so we rehydrated it with Fusion Hemp Oil , and boy what a difference it made on the solid walnut wood. It just brought out such richness to the wood. Some hemp oil was also applied on the new pulls.

For the body of the armoire, we applied Fusion Clear Wax.
For a little contrast to the interior, we painted it with Fusion Mineral Paint . We mixed some “Plaster” and “Limestone” which we had left over.
